CME Requirements

Texas CME Requirements for Relicensure (per biennium)

In order to retain your Texas license, physicians must earn a set number of hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.

  • Each physician must complete a total of at least 48 CME hours every 24 months
    • 24 of the 48 hours must be in formal category 1A or 1 courses.
  • Included in the 24 formal hours, there are five (5) mandatory hours required by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) for biennial relicensure
  • 2 hours of Medical Ethics and/or Professional Responsibility
  • 2 Pain Management and the Prescription of Opioids
  • 1 hour of Human Trafficking

DEA MATE Requirements

  • Beginning June 27, 2023 all Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registered practitioners must complete a one-time eight-hour (8) training requirement on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

AOA CME GUIDE FOR OSTEOPATHIC PHYSICIANS

In order to retain their Texas license, physicians must earn a set number of hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.

To help Texas' osteopathic physicians earn these credits, the TOMA holds two (2) conferences each year. Our MidWinter Conference is held each winter and our Annual Convention is held each summer. Discounts on registration rates are available to all TOMA members.
