Student Doctor of the Year Award

TOMA is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Student Doctor of the Year Award! The Student DO of the Year (SDOY) award honors and recognizes an osteopathic medical student who is committed to the principles of leadership, community service, dedication, and professionalism.

Nominees must be in their third or fourth year of Osteopathic Medical School from Texas. Nominations are due December 3, 2023 and the award will be presented during TOMA's 68th MidWinter Conference in Southlake.

Qualifications

The candidate must be in their third or fourth-year of Osteopathic Medical School in Texas and must be a member in good standing of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA). One nomination per year will be requested from all Osteopathic Medical Schools from Texas. Self-nominations and nominations from current TOMA members will also be accepted.

Factors to be considered in conferring the award include, but are not limited to:

  • Candidate must be a member of an osteopathic medical organization (beyond TOMA membership)
  • Demonstrate outstanding performance in community service
    • Defined by hours or community service
    • Translating Osteopathic Understanding into Community Health (TOUCH) awardee
  • Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement
  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership
  • Demonstrate dedication to the osteopathic profession
