Date:             Thursday, April 20, 2017
When:           7am – 3pm
Where:          TOMA Headquarters and State Capitol
TOMA’s DOME Day is osteopathic medicine’s biennial event where TOMA leadership, osteopathic physicians, osteopathic medical students and Advocates convene in Austin to lobby legislators on issues important to the osteopathic profession. It is an opportunity for members of the Texas osteopathic community to join together and educate state legislators and their staff members face-to-face on how current legislative proposals will impact their patients and the practice of medicine. Legislators and staff tend to remember the day when hundreds of white coats visit the Capitol!
What to expect
  • TOMA physicians have agreed to generously contribute resources providing transportation for OMS to come to Austin. The Bus will depart from TCOM early enough so that you will arrive in Austin @ 7am.
  •  Once you get to the TOMA building Austin, you will learn lobbying techniques and receive updates on critical pieces of legislation from Lobbyists, Physician leaders and TOMA staff.
  •  Appointments held in the office of your legislators (Both Senate & House). All students who’ve yet to lobby their member at the Capitol will have the opportunity to pair up with a physician or veteran student. In a word, you’ll be trained up and get to work in a group.
  •  TOMA made a number of appointments for key Legislators, you will learn your groups in the morning when you arrive to the TOMA Bldg.  You are encouraged to make appointments on your own if you’d like to visit w/ Legislators not serving on the Senate Health and Human Services or House Public Health Committees or physician legislators.
  •  DOME Day attendees will be recognized in both the Senate and House of Representatives Chambers.
  • Lunch will be provided at TOMA.
