Call for Applications - Board of Trustees

The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) is seeking several dedicated individuals to serve on TOMA's Board of Trustees for the 2024 - 2025 year.  Applications are now being accepted for the following positions:

  • President-Elect
  • Vice President 
  • (3) Trustee openings 
  • (1) Intern/Fellow/Resident Trustee
  • Texas Delegate/Alt. Delegate to the AOA House of Delegates

The deadline to apply is December 31, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Please review the duties and responsibilities closely before submitting your online application. Applicants me be current members of TOMA and in good standing. Applications submitted via email will not be accepted.

Duties and Responsibilities

A.  BOARD MEMBER POSITION DESCRIPTION
Members of the Board govern the association. The Board determines the association’s mission and purpose, ensures effective organizational planning and adequate resources, and ensures the legal and ethical integrity of the association. Board members recruit and retain members and identify emerging leaders.

B.  RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, DUTIES, EXPECTED OUTCOMES

    • Attend all Board and committee meetings and functions such as special events;
    • Maintain knowledge of the association and personal commitment to its goals and objectives;
    • Stay informed about the association’s Mission, Bylaws, services, policies and programs;
    • Review agenda and supporting materials prior to Board and committee meetings;
    • Serve on committees as assigned by the President;
    • Suggest possible nominees to the Board who can make significant contributions to the work of the Board and the association;
    • Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies;
    • Assist the Board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing the association’s financial statements; and,
    • Promote widespread active member participation to develop leadership and encourage harmony.
C.  TIME COMMITMENT

The Board meets four times a year. Attend committee meetings and conference calls as scheduled. Attend association events including conferences, House of Delegates, other special events.

D.  CONFLICT OF INTEREST STATEMENT:
Below is a conflict of interest statement that is required to be read and signed by each Board of Trustee member prior to the start of any board meeting.
 
As a member of the Board of Trustees of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA), an association, I will to the extent provided by law, certify that I have reviewed the Conflict of Interest policy as stipulated in Article VII, Section 15 of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) Bylaws, and hereby attest to no conflict of interest on my part as a member of this association.
 
I further agree to immediately disclose any such possible or suspected conflict or appearance of impropriety to the Board of Trustees of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA).
 
E.  CONFIDENTIALITY STATEMENT:
I agree to respect and maintain the confidentiality of all Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) Board of Trustees meeting discussions, deliberations, records, and any other information or activities involving these meetings.
