The Physician Wellness Toolkit: Practical Tips to Incorporate Mindfulness in Practice and Reduce Burnout in Battling the Narcotic Epidemic

200 Physicians per year die from suicide, and numbers are growing.  Physicians are also the first line of response to the mounting narcotic epidemic and dealing with patients resistance to medication reduction certainly contributes to burn out. Many Physicians are aware of growing numbers of burnt out colleagues but need small practical steps they can take in busy day to day lives to implement them.  They inherently are driven to help patients, yet are pitted against them when discussing safe prescribing guidelines.  This lecture seeks to educate Physicians about how to incorporate self care in a busy day and incorporate recovery principles of addiction treatment to reduce burn out.

Objectives:
1. Understand the signs and prevalence of physician burn out.
2. Identify 3 daily strategies that can be incorporated in your daily practice.
3. Integrate recovery principles in working with patients with addiction.
