Welcome to the TOMA Office Manager Website

Dear Physicians and Office Managers,

I want to welcome everyone to the first TOMA website for Office Managers and Physicians. We feel that it is very important to every practice that office managers get together and exchange ideas.  Also, when there is a doctor fresh out of school and opening his or her own practice, it would be helpful for his staff and office manager to have people to contact for help.  We feel this will be an asset to new and existing practices.  So, let me get started by introducing myself and giving you a little bit of my history.

My name is Kelly Skinner and I am from Eastland, Texas.  In 1985, I worked for a CPA firm in Eastland, Texas.  I was responsible for completing client accounting for about 25 clients every month.  I also performed payroll for about 5 companies every week, did quarterly payroll reports for about 50 clients every quarter and W-2 and 1099’s for about 50 clients a year.  I gained a lot of experience for the 4 ½ years that I worked for the CPA firm.

In 1990, I was hired by Dr. William Oswalt, M.D.   For about 7 years, I worked front desk checking patients in and out, was responsible for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, processed insurance claims electronically, managed a network of about 25 computers, processed Payroll, posted hospital charges and just about anything else pertaining to billing.  At that time we had 2 other physicians, Dr Robert Deluca and Dr Sandy Hazelip that shared the same building.  All three staffs worked together, we shared the same charts but all billing was kept separately. The three offices worked very well together.  As far as the patients were concerned we were one office and we helped each other.   I helped train their staff when needed.

In 1997, Dr. Oswalt hired a Nurse Practitioner and after about a year, I needed to hire someone to work the front desk full time. Each practitioner saw about 25 to 30 patients a day on an average.  The clinic was a very busy place because Eastland County has a shortage of doctors.

In 2003, after 13 years of working for Dr Oswalt, he was in an accident and passed away 11-13-03. Since then, I have been working for Dr. Robert Deluca.  He has been wonderful to work for and he has allowed me to broaden my experience over the last 3 years.  Now the clinic has 1 physician, 1 NP and 1 PA.  Our staff consists of about 15 employees.  My job has changed and I love it.  I now manage 15 employees, Accounts receivable, Accounts payables, all the billing and insurance, network of computers, payroll, end of year reports, and much more.

Over the last 17 years, I have also helped other physicians outside our clinic with billing.  I love to be able to help a physician who is having trouble getting claims paid because I love what I do.  It is a challenge for me to be able to help other people with the experience that I have received over the last 17 years and I hope that this website will help to many ways.

Sincerely,

Kelly Skinner
