Importance of an Office Manager

As an office manager, you are the one in charge of your practice.  You know that your job description doesn’t even begin to cover the many roles you actually fill.  As an office manager you must play several different roles……..a friend, a coach, a boss and a mediator.  You are responsible for many things such as Delegating jobs, motivating employees, delivering discipline, working under pressure, meeting deadlines, training new employees, organizing schedules and jobs, keeping up with expenses, maintain money flow, etc.

Regardless of your managing experiences, you can always benefit from new ideas that will keep you at your peak performance.

Not every physician office has an office manager.  This is NOT a good idea. Some physicians think that they want to handle everything that happens in the office and have control of every aspect of the office.  A physician has to find an office manager that they can trust to handle situations, as they would want them handled.  Our job as an office manager is to make our doctors life easier.  The doctor needs to be able to go home at night and not have to worry about day-to-day happenings in the office.  He needs to be able to focus on patient care not on managing employees.

To have a successful practice you must start with a highly trained office manager who is multi-talented, trustworthy, hard worker and very passionate about their job.  There are many ways to accomplish training an office manager.  Training can happen at conventions, seminars, on-line training or on-site training.  When starting fresh with a new office manager, it is a great idea to have someone come in and evaluate your practice.  Many problems can be corrected and coding errors be found by using someone outside your office to evaluate your practice.  It would be money well spent.

In closing, I hope you will send your office manager and attend the office manager meetings yourself to see what it’s all about!  There will be people there to answer any questions you may have including myself. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Hope to see you there !

Sincerely,
