Constitution

 

ARTICLE I - NAME

SECTION 1 - This Association shall be known as the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association.

 

SECTION 2 - This Association is hereby declared to be a divi­sional society of the American Osteopathic Association and shall be subject to the Constitution and Bylaws and the Code of Ethics of the American Osteopathic Association, now in effect or as here­after amended.

ARTICLE II - OBJECTS

SECTION 1 - The objects of this Association shall be to improve the public health; to promote the philosophy of the osteopathic school of medicine; to elevate and maintain the high standards of the osteopathic profession in the fields of medicine, surgery and obstetrics; to promote research in the diagnosis and treatment of disease; and to establish and improve upon the high standards of medical education and practice in osteopathic institutions.

ARTICLE III - DISTRICT SOCIETIES AND AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS

 

SECTION 1 - This Association shall be an organization of District societies formed within the State and affiliated organizations authorized by the Bylaws.

ARTICLE IV - MEMBERSHIP

SECTION 1 - The membership of this Association shall consist of the present members of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and of such others as shall be accepted in the manner prescribed by the Bylaws.

ARTICLE V - OFFICERS

SECTION 1 - The officers of this Association shall be President, Vice President, President-Elect, two (2) Immediate Past Presidents, Speaker of the House of Delegates and Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates. They shall perform such duties as are provided in the Bylaws.


ARTICLE VI - BOARD OF TRUSTEES

SECTION 1 - The Board of Trustees of this Association shall consist of the President, Vice President, President-Elect, two (2) Immediate Past Presidents, twelve (12) Trustees elected by the House of Delegates, Speaker of the House of Delegates*, Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates*, one intern/resident/fellow member, and one student* member. The Board shall be the administrative and executive body of the Association and perform such other duties as are provided by the Bylaws. (* = ex officio, non-voting)

ARTICLE VII - EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

SECTION 1 - The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees shall consist of the President, Vice President, President-Elect, two (2) Immediate Past Presidents, Chairman of the Department of Professional Affairs, Chairman of the Department of Public Affairs and Chairman of the Department of Development and Liaison.

ARTICLE VIII - HOUSE OF DELEGATES

SECTION 1 - The House of Delegates shall consist of delegates elected by the District societies and of such other members as may be provided by the Bylaws. The House of Delegates shall be the legislative body of the Association and shall perform such func­tions as are defined in the Bylaws.

ARTICLE IX - MEETINGS

SECTION 1 - The annual meeting shall be held at such time and place as may be determined by the House, but such time and place may be changed by the Board of Trustees should it be deemed advisable.

ARTICLE X - AMENDMENTS

SECTION 1 - The Constitution of this Association may be amended at any regular annual meeting of the House of Delegates by two-thirds vote of the accredited delegates, present and voting, provided that not less than thirty (30), or not more than ninety (90) days notice shall have been given to the House of Delegates in writing by the Executive Director; or that such notice shall have been published in like manner in the official publication of this Association. Only those amendments proposed by a District Society, or the Committee on Constitution, Bylaws and Documents will be considered for action.
